What Is Crohn’s Disease?
Crohn’s disease is an inflammatory condition, where lesions appear and manifest especially at the level of the intestine and mainly in the terminal small intestine segments. The symptoms of the disease include abdominal pain, purulent and sanguinolent discharges, sometimes leading even to intestinal perforation with peritonitis.
If the large intestine is also affected, the disease can manifest through suppurative lesions at the level of the perianal region – fistula and recurrent and difficult evolution abscesses.
What Are The Specific Symptoms?
In most cases, diarrheic stools 10 – 20 times a day, asthenia, weight loss, physical development delays in teenagers.
How Is It Treated?
Crohn’s disease treatment mainly relies on specific medication, prescribed by the gastroenterologist and it may take several months. Intestinal biopsy is often required.
